Jim Graham’s parking

DC Councilmember Jim Graham represents Ward One, which includes Adams Morgan. Among other achievements listed on his home page, he has increased the level of parking enforcement in that area, blaming scofflaw “out-of-state” (actually, out-of-district) drivers. I fully support this effort and would like to see a dramatic increase in parking enforcement force citywide.

Unfortunately, Mr. Graham often parks his own car illegally. The photo below was taken just after 11 am on Saturday, April 1, 2006, at the corner of 18th and Kalorama, in Graham's own district. I have also seen him parking illegally in Dupont Circle.

Parking can be very difficult in these neighborhoods, but that does not excuse lawless behavior, whether by suburbanites or by our own elected officials. It is disappointing that Mr. Graham chooses to drive a car around town when he is not willing to legally find a place to leave it.
